Update October 30th!!
Finally....an update
Hello World! How is everyone. I know, I know, I have been a real slacker with the updates, but...
well I have four essays due this week, so this update will be the only one for at least some time.
I am however, going to Scotland this weekend, so it will be a good way to celebrate finishing these
essays. I will be going to Edinburgh, and we will take the train, which is around a four hour journey.
That should be very nice, because I will finally get to see a little more of the countryside. And
the ticket was dirt cheap, just around 45 US dollars round trip.
Now, on to what I should have updates before. It has been almost a week since I updated. We won
our second basketball game againts Brunel, a team which plays its home games way out by Heathrow
Airport. On our way to the game, our train stopped in between stops in the and being an underground
train, we were all a little concerned and very claustrophobic. It was a good five minutes before the train began moving
but what worried us most was the fact that our conductor spoke on the loudspeaker and told us that he
didn't know what the problem was. WONDERFUL!! He concluded that he "hoped that it didn't hurt our
travel plans." I appreciated the concern. We laughed.
The delay put us at the game fifteen minutes late, but it didn't really matter. We began the game without
some of our taller players, so I had to play a little bit of center and power forward. It almost
reminded me of high school days. Except for the fact that this time we won by 35 points, instead of
losing by that same amount. Two of our players, Kamba and Jihan, who both played Division 1 basketball
before coming to the LSE, scored a combined 71 points. The rest of the team scored 27. It was a lot of
fun.
Since that game, which was on Wednesday, I have gotten myself aquainted with the innermost crevices of
the BLPES, our very fancy, and soon to be moved library. The library is currently located 15 minutes
from school, because they are remodeling its permanent home. With four essays to do, I spent most of
my days in back rooms, resisting the urge to visit Espn.com.
My essays, for those that are interested, are as follows. For my class on Vietnam, I am arguing that
Lyndon Baines Johnson should have chosen between his Great Society Plans or the war. For my Morality
and Values class, I am comparing the justifications of the state of both Thomas Hobbes and John Locke.
For my class on British Political Ideas, I am delving into the mind of libertarian Herbert Spencer and his work,
The Man Versus The State. And Finally, for my class on The Ethics of War, I haven't figured it out yet. All of these are due by Friday.
I spent part of my afternoon today filling out my absentee voting ballot, which I hope to have in
the mail by tomorrow. ROCK THE VOTE!

And now this...
The Allman Brothers are an amazing band, so as I listen to them I think what many people perhaps think of
when they listen to great music: how much I would love to be a rock star. For all the drugs, sex and
adultery that goes on with rock stars, I still think that it would be unreal to play electric with Angus of AC/Dc.
Enough of my daydreaming...
I have been playing exorbidant amounts of pool since I have been here. English rules are much different from
those of American pool, but I have found the game to be my new means to fuel my competitive fire.
What's more, I am actually getting a little better, although there are some kids here who cannot miss. They have played
since they we so young, that the game has little to do with geometry and more with muscle memory.
For me I need to use every advantage I can.
I almost forgot, and perhaps this also a reason for my earlier daydream. On Friday, after what seemed like 12 hours
in the BLPES, I went to see Buddy, which is a play telling the story of Buddy Holly. It was pretty good
though it was not Les Mis. The actor who portrayed Buddy was really good, he actually sounded like Buddy HOlly at times, and
the set was very well put together. The play itself was interactive, in some sense, as the actors
pretended that they were in concert and we were the audience. All in all it was well worth the 7 pounds.
Unlike Les Mis, they didn't mind us taking pictures in the theatre, so I did get some pictures.
Finally, I must stop procrastinating, but before I get back to my essays, here is a preview of
what's to come. Wednesday: Basketball Game #3. Saturday 7:00 AM: Train to Edinburgh. Sunday: A castle which has something to do
with Braveheart. Monday: Back to London. Next weekend: Wales to stay at Rhys' place.
more to come...
